line   THE NEED

As the Antelope Valley grows as an affordable housing community for people from the Los Angeles area, the growth has brought many pains that often accompany economic expansion.

-The commuting of 60,000 residents reduces family time by extending the workday by 3 to 4 hours.  (United Way)

-Approximately 20,000 children are growing up in poverty. (United Way)

-Nearly 60,000 residents received public assistance. (United Way)

The commuting results in unsupervised children during the hours immediately after school prior to the arrival of the parent to home. Poverty restricts a child’s ability to receive access to quality educational systems such as computerized learning software. Children who have difficulty learning today will most likely be a liability to society in the future either by participating in gangs or by extracting public assistance such as food-stamps.
